Author: admin  //  Category: Uncategorized

i was wondering, those braided nylon rope from Home Depot, OSH, Hardware shops, wal-mart..etc
if you watch them enough, will they get soft?
Can you dry the ropes in the dryer on low heat? cause where i do my laundry at there’s only three settings: high, med, low.

  1. lunanul Says:

What happens to the rope after washing depends on many factors such as rope construction (laid, braided, double braid, kernmantle, etc.), type of fiber used, etc. Generally speaking, nylon ropes tend to get stiffer and harder after multiple washings because washing removes all of the lubricants and treatments applied during the manufacturing process. Wash some ropes enough and they squeak! The best way to answer this question is wash and see.

The more you try to soften nylon rope the weaker you make it. Puttng it in the dryer even at a low heat will alter the properties and weaken it. Nylon is a petroleum based product.
