What Is Mme And Asio And How Do I Know If My Audio Hardware Is Compatible?

Author: admin  //  Category: Uncategorized

I have just bought Cubase music software. According to the box the required system says that amongst other things I must have Windows MME compatible audio hardware or as recommended ASIO compatible audio hardware.
I have checked my soundcard but cand find no reference to MME or ASIO.
What is MME and ASIO and how do I know if my audio hardware is compatible
My soundcard is a Soundblaster Audigy 2 and I use Windows XP.

ASIO is a protocol which allows software to control your sound input/output directly to/from your hardware (soundcard) without the need to use “directsound” (from directX) as its protocol … Basically the ASIO protocol allows your software (cubase) to interact (directly) with your hardware. This is advantageous to music professionals and music engineers because it reduces the latency (lag) , that windows would take up in calculating what it wants to send/recieve from the soundcard , or indeed from any external sound device ..Its merely a protocol that your card must have (Which it DOES by the way) to allow direct interaction between your program (cubase) and your soundcard… I have friends who have successfully installed and used Cubase on far older and far less capable sound cards …you have no worries …your soundcard complies 100 %
Hope this was of help …. enjoy Cubase , happy creating

ASIO is Audio Stream Input/Output MME something similar. It should work however you need to select it as your computer will use the audio drivers that are part of your operating system
