when i plug my usb into a loptop and boot the laptop off the usb drive, i get an error saying cannot mount. Then i click e to edit and it says … root hd1,0 and under the kernel it says /boot/vmlinuz. How do i fix this so i can run ubuntu on my laptop?

So basically I’ve always wanted one so I bought one online from this lady who said it was unlocked. So yeah I bought a simcard and turned it on and it said “Waiting for Activation etc it should take under 48 hours” And then around 50 hours later it still said this. I went to a Vodafone shop [Because I'm in NZ and there's no T-Mobile stores and it's a vodafone sim card] and the guy there said there was a high chance it was locked… So I have no idea how to unlock it, [I've read pretty much all the questions on here] I pushed menu + L and it comes up with the phone options and everything like it’s okay but I can’t text or call anyone, I can recieve texts though.
Yeah I dunno if I’m being retarded or something, but help? D:

In a short time, I will be moving to the US for college. Right now im in Germany, and when i get there i would of course want to get a cellphone. But I have no idea how the service providers are like. I know that AT&T have their exclusive iphone and there’s sprint, verizon etc.
In germany the three biggest are vodafone,tmobile and O2. Vodafone seems the most popular, they have many specialized data plans, but it is seen as being the expensive one. Tmobile has their iphone and dont seem to be as “hip” as vodafone. O2 is weak in terms of appealing to customers but they offer competent data plans and quite a number of special flatrates(O2 seems to be for the “pros”who use their phone a lot). What is it like in america???

its the dock thats included with the iphone box. it says its use is for charging and syncing the iphone. how does it sync? is it wireless?

I have just bought Cubase music software. According to the box the required system says that amongst other things I must have Windows MME compatible audio hardware or as recommended ASIO compatible audio hardware.
I have checked my soundcard but cand find no reference to MME or ASIO.
What is MME and ASIO and how do I know if my audio hardware is compatible
My soundcard is a Soundblaster Audigy 2 and I use Windows XP.

I have tried googling it, but this question must be too basic or something, because I get a lot of complex answers about security glitches and people taking over root access and such…instead of me being able to find out the simple thing that happens…

I have enabled Userchatrooms feuture of Yahoo! Messneger by editing the system.xml file and making it read-only. But there is another feature disabled. That is “guestmsg”. What possible could this be? I have enabled it but can’t see any change.
