Avast, Avira and AVG are the best. They are all updated frequently and will cost you zero dollars.

    McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i RC
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise protects your desktop and file servers from a wide range of threats, including viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and potentially unwanted code and programs. McAfee VirusScan 8 takes anti-virus protection to the next level, integrating elements of intrusion prevention and firewall technology into a single solution for PCs and file servers.

Usually, for a virus scans im use Free Antivirus scan on http://www.antivirus-scans.com
    Direct link: http://usa.antivirus-scans.com/products_...
After that i try to find a virus in viruslist and read Removal instructions for this virushttp://www.viruslist.antivirus-scans.com
I think that is the easiest way for virus elimination.

If you don’t mind paying then NOD32 is about the best at the minute http://www.eset.com/
Kaspersky is rated high too but they recently had a problem that left users unprotected while it updated. This has now been resolved but has made me wonder about them. http://www.kaspersky.com/
Out of the free ones I’d recommend Avast Home Edition http://avast.com
Others will probably suggest AVG or Avira but I think Avast comes out on top and has less false positives than the other too.
Try one and if you’re not happy with it uninstall and try another.
Remember that you can only have one running at at time.
    Hope this helps.

    I recommend ESET NOD32 Antivirus!! http://www.nod32.com.sg/html/44/42/
ESET NOD32 Antivirus Version is a highly effective security solution designed to protect computers from a wide range of malware and other threats. Using advanced ThreatSense® technology, ESET NOD32 Antivirus detects future threats proactively, minimizing the window of vulnerability left open by traditional signature-based detection. Its low resource utilization and small footprint make it very efficient, even on older hardware, yet it supports the latest operating systems and 64-bit processors. ESET NOD32 Antivirus detects and disables viruses (Include unknow virus), trojans, worms, spyware, adware, phishing attacks, rootkits and other Internet threats that may pose a security or financial threat to businesses. Its comprehensive and proactive protection is unrivaled, yet it also has a very small system footprint — improving performance and conserving bandwidth.
