How Can I Tell The Seriousness Of My Cat’s Hacking Like Cough?
Author: admin // Category: Site NewsHello, my cat is 10 years old and has always been an indoor cat. Just recently she has begun to do a “hacking” type cough. I’m pretty sure it’s not a hairball, I know way too much about those, but I am concerned it might be of a serious nature like her heart. She does seem to have watery eyes with mucus therefore I’m hoping it’s just a cold but it just feels to me it’s more than that. Any answers or ideas on medicines will be greatly appreciated from the both of us.

Try the cat treats that are for eliminating hairballs, seems to work with our cat. I THINK you give the cat 6 pieces a day for a few days or so straight, then once or twice a week (of course check and follow instructions). They’re in the treat section of grocery stores, forgot the brand name, but are in pouches. As with any medication, don’t over do it. I’d say if you don’t see improvement within a couple of days, don’t hesitate to get the kitty to a vet.

I would take your cat to the vet. It doesnt sound very good, but most likely if you take her, they will be able to help with medication, 10 is still young for a cat, but dont wait, if it continues, get her in there.Heres a link to cat pneumonia(lol sounds funny, but its a possibility)http://www.petplace.com/cats/aspiration-…

It could be a respiratory infection, but there are lots of other things that cause coughing… does anyone smoke at home? has the cat ever been tested for feline leukemia? have you ever been told it has a heart murmur? cats can also have things like cancers or heartworms that can lead to coughing.. The best thing to do is see your vet - you can get antibiotics if if looks like an infection, or other diagnostics can be done to try to determine the cause.

Chances are she just has a cold. However since she cannot tell you and it could be something else. I suggest you take her in and get her checked. It could range from she is allergic to something to she is seriously sick. When it comes to animals we just don’t know. Thus we need a professional. If a local vet is to pricey for you look for something like an animal defense league. In most cities there is an agency that provide low cost care for animals.
