Alright first of all if you go to my docs or the EA folder click it click sims 2 , find the downloads folder. All your downloads must be dragged into it. Download sims 2 file maid. Takes up almost no space and extracts the files to the game automatically. you can use winzip or something like that.It can be a trial. when it expires just exit out of the box that says it expired doesn’t matter. download it save it and the file will come up in winzip. Have the sims 2 file maid running. Click and drag the file onto the maids lawn and beneath it says if the file has been zipped. Okie Dokie! there its done. It should be in your game now. now that is for most sims sites. For thesims2.com when you go to exchange and download something you click download and then after its done press ok. Its gone dont worry a blue box will come up explaining the thing you download press ok/next then it will say whether it downloaded or not. Alright i hope i was alot of help! HAVE FUN!!!

Don’t use the unzipping program that comes with your computer. It simply won’t work. I use stuffit. There is a free trial(30 days) that you can download. When your free trial is up, you can continue to use the program, just with less features. If you aren’t using your computer’s program and it still won’t work, you may need to download meshes that you didn’t. Go to the download page and look in the meshes required box, it’s just below the actual download box.

Nothing ruins your computer unless you’re being dumb and don’t scan your downloads before you open them or extract them. Get Alzip. It’s free and works great. winzip costs, but is a good program. Alzip is the only thing comparable. Open everything you download from mts2 with alzip and extract it to my documents-ea games-the sims 2-downloads. Unless you’ve moved the folder, it will be there. Some files like lots and sims must be opened and installed with the sims 2 installer.

You may not like this answer, but you seem to have missed a step.
Without details about what guide you read, what steps you took and what exactly is not showing up it’s hard to tell what the problem is.
I’m not sure if you have been here, but it is a troubleshooting guide for custom content not showing up:http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title…
Update your question if you have better details someone can help you with.

you have to download some weird program to your computer to open the file though the program does ruin your computer and downloading things can ruin your sims game too

get the express installer from that same site. It will install all your items for you, and then they should show up in the game.

you have to go to documents. then to collections. and then double click on each item you download. :D.
